Protecting the Environment
Environmental responsibility is firmly embedded into the Georgia-Pacific culture. Well into our second decade of tracking environmental performance, Georgia-Pacific is interested in continually improving our performance.Why? Because we know that to sustain our business and our world, we need to be good stewards of the air, water, soil and other natural resources—more efficiently using these resources so that we will continue to be able to make products that consumers want and need.
How do we do it? We have developed a comprehensive Environment, Health & Safety Policy to guide us. We conform and, in some cases, are certified to global standards for environmental performance. We collaborate with others on issues that affect us all, and we train Georgia-Pacific people to help us meet our commitments related to protecting the environment.
Our Environmental Priorities include:
- Continuing to strengthen our environmental management systems;
- Focusing on incident prevention through improved analysis of incidents and root causes;
- Moving beyond 10,000% compliance towards environmental excellence; and
- Improving the focus on sustainability throughout Georgia-Pacific.

Improving Energy Efficiency, Using Green Power
Energy supplies are a global concern and energy costs continue to increase. Reducing energy use
and exploring new sources are the right things to do for the environment, and for the sustainability
of our business. Georgia-Pacific is tackling energy initiatives on multiple fronts.
Never Stop Improving with Compliance Standards
Georgia-Pacific implements management assurance systems that are much broader than basic
compliance with laws and regulations. The company systematically implements standards that
support our continuous improvement philosophy and specifically address environmental issues such
as air quality.
