Accounting, Internal Audit and Tax

The Georgia-Pacific controllers group hires professional accountants and analysts for positions that range from entry-level to vice presidents. Controllers group employees support all of GP's businesses. They are located at our headquarters in Atlanta and at facilities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

As an entry-level accountant, you will learn Georgia-Pacific's basic accounting and operational procedures. Your responsibilities will involve work in some of the following areas: financial statement analysis, general ledger accounting, account analysis, inventory accounting, fixed asset accounting, project analysis and communication of financial information to management.

Georgia-Pacific's controllers organization offers support for employees interested in taking the CPA exam.

As an entry-level auditor, you will work as part of a team to evaluate the design and operational effectiveness of financial controls in one of Georgia-Pacific's three main manufacturing segments – Consumer Products, Packaging and Building Products – or in our headquarters and Information Technology areas. In addition to providing a broad view of Georgia-Pacific, auditing will develop your ability to interact with management, assess risk, conduct financial analysis and evaluate controls. Your learning experiences will be enhanced greatly by the knowledge gained through interactions with business partners in accounting, manufacturing, information technology, engineering and other areas. You will use scholastic experience, on-the-job and classroom training provided by the department, and proficient communication skills to assist on audits in various capacities, including the execution of audit program steps, project related administrative tasks, controls testing and action item development. Candidates must have the ability and willingness to travel for audits. The level of travel varies by audit team, but normally does not exceed 40%.

As an entry-level tax accountant you will gather, research and prepare information for federal, state and/or international income tax returns, respond to government inquiries, and analyze legislation and transactions. You will support company positions in tax audits and participate in tax planning projects. You will also identify opportunities to provide tax recommendations that drive value for the company.

Georgia-Pacific's financial groups – accounting, audit and tax – are committed to career development, and to promoting employees into leadership positions throughout the company.
